Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” (Philippians 4:6-9)

This is my favorite verse in all of the Bible. When I think about God’s promise to us in this verse I am overcome with a sense of peace and comfort. No matter how tumultuous I feel that my life may be, or how certain things cause me worry, I realize that the answer is right here. Pray. petition the Lord for mercy and comfort, and praise Him because He is mighty and His love is strong. He is the only one who can create that sense of wholeness in us. What a great reminder that everything will come together for good, all the bitter seasons and rain will once again give way to sunshine and sweet blessings, but there are lessons to be learned and strength to be gained through the adversity of today.

I praise God for the rain because I could not grow with out it. I would not know true gratitude without a sense of lacking first. I would not know patience if I never had to wait. And I would not know Jesus if I didn’t need Him daily.

In His love,
