Standing strong in the Lord

23 03 2011

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do…Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” (James 1: 5-8, 12)

Ask and you shall receive. Works every time right? Sometimes this concept of receiving from God seems to not work quite the way it seems on the surface. Brand new cars and fantastic jobs don’t just land in my lap because God is not a genie. But there is one thing God guarantees us. And that is wisdom. God will not just give us some wisdom but in James it says that God gives generously to those who ask. And wisdom is the key to understanding. Without wisdom, we are tossed and blown around like the waves in the sea.

Today as I read this passage I felt a sense of peace. Peace in knowing that God has more for me, more than the stresses of busyness and worries about my future. God doesn’t want me to be thrown around like the waves, to have my life turned upside down and off course on the slightest whim. God wants me to stand strong, Like an unwavering pillar, a tower of strength, when we hope in the Lord and gain wisdom through prayer, we are steadfast. We are lights in a dark world, we have an identity greater than our own.

Doubting in the Lord and in ourselves not only alters our state of mind in one decision, but it says it will make us unstable in all that we do. Doubting affects more than we think it might. God is in control and as long as we can live in that truth we can make it through anything, Tomorrow has enough worries of its own. So I will focus on today, focus on living for God and believing in true wisdom.

In His love,

Stacey
