There’s another option

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Life is tough. Really tough. But is it ever too tough? Sometimes when things don’t seem fair or they seem out of control, I wonder “how did this or that happen?”, Or “how will I ever be able to fix this?” I feel in over my head and can’t see the surface. But just as I think I’m drowning, I can see a light. Jesus has provided a way out. And not just a way out once, but every time, a way to come full circle and actually get rid of temptation and hindrances, not just push them down. Daily, we are  tempted and sometimes we fall into that temptation. I’m not perfect. No one is.That’s why we need grace, we need Jesus.

The key about this passage is that it doesn’t promise a trouble-free life. Many times, the assumption is that Christians should have no problems. That everything should be peachy keen after you make a decision to follow Christ. Health and wealth is what you receive for believing right? WRONG! Just the opposite in fact is true. When you make a decision to follow Christ, Satan begins his attack, trying to persuade you away from your true calling back into the lie of fulfillment through the world and its temporary pleasures. Temptation is all around us, but Jesus is still in control. And that gives me hope.

Jesus is  Lord. He is omniscient. All-knowing. He is bigger than these problems. He’s Lord over everything including Satan himself. No matter how big our problems or temptations seem, they are not as big as God. He will always prevail. Even when it seems like you are drowning, that there is no other choice but to let those problems consume you, there is always another option. That option is Jesus. Putting control back in His hands, and not in my own, releases me from the stress and worry of my stuff. And that’s what it is. it’s just stuff. And He is more.

In His love,
