Whose name am I carrying?

5 01 2011

“Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws,we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.” (Isaiah 26:8)

What do I desire? Underneath it all, what is my motive to do what I do? As it says in Isaiah, the name of the Lord and His renown should be the desire of our hearts. Everything should be for His glory. No matter what we do or where we go or who we are with, if God is not glorified, it should not be happening. For one of two reasons: 1. it is sinful and clearly not within the will of God for our lives, or 2. We are doing good things but instead glorifying ourselves, which is idolatry.

Lately, I have been thinking a lot about decisions regarding my future. What should I do after my internship is over in August? Grad school? Stay in California? Move to Florida? Get a job? hmmm… decisions, decisions. Sometimes decision making leaves me almost paralyzed. As I wait for God to “lead me” somewhere, I end up feeling more distant from Him as I don’t receive an answer. But what if maybe, sometimes, it just doesn’t matter where I go as long as I am carrying the right name? What if God says “you choose.” He gave us free will to do as we please, so why sometimes do we not use it?

The love of Christ is needed in every place, in every country, in every company. As long as Christ is at the center of your work, maybe sometimes it doesn’t matter where you go as long as He is first.

In His love,

Thanks for this post. I especially agree with what you are saying. I have been talking about this subject a lot lately with my father so let’s hope this will get him to see my point of view. Fingers crossed!
