Who am I?

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This signet from God is the first installment on what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life. (Ephesians 1: 11-14, The Message)

The past few days the idea of our identity is Christ has been raised in my mind over and over and over. It is something which I try and grasp but still feel like I have not yet understood. What does is look like to truly live as a child of God. This life of worry and frustration and confusion is not at all what God intended for His children. He intended a life of peace and joy. He lavishes grace on us and we in turn are called to live according to His purpose for our lives, not out of coerced obedience but out of love and reverence for the one who loved us first.

I came across a great website that lists many of the verses regarding who we are in Christ. http://crossinglouisville.com/2009/05/03/our-identity-in-christ/ i would encourage you to take a look at it. I think these verses are not just helpful, but pivotal to our understanding of the Christian faith. Christ promises that with faith in Him and a overarching purpose in life to bring Him glory, all other things will fall into place.  Regardless of what we do, or the choices we make, if we turn to God first and ask for the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives, God will take us down the path we are supposed to go, the path that is ultimately the best for us and will bring Him the glory. To me this is huge.

I think and over think things so often, planning 8 steps down the road instead of one. (Like if i do x then y will happen and then z and then…) God wants us to rest in Him and know that as His children he has it all under control. As long as we continue to come to Him first, to glorify Him above all else, to know our true identity is in Him, nothing else can deter us from exactly what He has planned. Amazing Joy 🙂

In His love,

Stacey
