Seek first

15 10 2010

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  (Matthew 6:33)

As I prepare to go to Mexico today for the weekend (If you don’t know, I work at Amor Ministries, a San Diego-based non-profit that helps to eradicate poverty by building homes in Mexico and around the world for poor families) this verse has been on my mind all day. As I worry about small things like will I pack enough warm clothes? and will I remember the directions? and will my friends forget about me in the 3 days I’m gone? this verse comes back to me over and over and over. Its like I can hear God just saying “Stacey, seek me” and then when I begin to worry about if i will have time to get gas this afternoon and i hear it again “Stacey, seek me.”

And I know its true. I have seen it over and over again in my life. When I seek the Lord first, everything falls into place, just as it should. There is an overwhelming sense of peace, a god-given tranquility and sense of total comfort, where I know that I am completely in God’s will, and these things I worry about will become vague memories.

So as I go to Mexico this afternoon, I know that God will be with me and leading me as I continue to seek Him first this weekend. As I do the work He is calling me to with the people whom I love.

In His love,
