I will be with you always

28 09 2010

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” ( Matthew 28:18-20)

So today is Bible Study Tuesday, each Tuesday at Amor we have our staff bible study in the morning and then I also attend a bible study with my church Flood at night. It’s a great break in the week and makes Tuesday now my most favorite day of the week (it used to be my least favorite, long story but just FYI).

This morning, we discussed more about Joshua and his courage to follow God as we studied Joshua 1 for the second week. We made the connection between Jesus’ words in Matthew 28 (above) and God’s words to Joshua in Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The same God, the God of the old and new testaments,  is giving us the same promise, then, now and forever. In the Old Testament, God said to Joshua to be strong and courageous becuase God already knew the huge task Joshua had ahead of him to get the Isrealites into the promised land. In Matthew, Jesus commands His disciples to go to the ends of the earth and make more disciples and says “I will be with you always” because He knows tough times are ahead as they try and form the church.

And to us, God has given the same commandment to go and make disciples and still the same promise that He will be with us. The comission He gives in Matthew is still applicable today. This is a verse I hold near to my heart, especially when I encounter resistance from those who don’t understand how the Lord has called me to Mexico. I am well aware that it is dangerous at times, that the news reports on the problems in Mexico on a daily basis. But I also know that this is exactly where God placed me. For a reason. And that He has promised me this: “Stacey, surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” And this great power and assurance presses me on toward the goal of making disciples in all nations, to spread the love of God to those who don’t know Him in Mexico.

I will be working in Mexico Wednesday and Thursday, please pray that God provides for our needs as we are serving the needs of others. Also, pray for the family’s hearts to be open to God at this time when He is providing so much for them.

In His love,
