Always Hope

24 09 2010

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)

I love this verse. It is one of my favorite inspirations in the Bible. It makes so so peaceful knowing that no matter what, there is always hope. It’s like God has something up His sleeve. We know it’s good, we just can’t yet know what it is. Like a surprise, just this time, the surprise is something I would bet my life on.

So often lately I have heard conversations about nuances in the Bible and nit-picking over human error in religion. This type of discussion, while important, sort of drives me crazy. One of the basic premises of Christianity is that it’s rooted in faith. Faith, by definition in this verse, is being certain of this we do not see. Are there parts of Christianity that I do not understand? Sentences in the Bible that don’t quite add up? Sure. But that’s ok. I don’t need to know everything, because God is God and I am not. As long as I have faith, those spaces in my mind are filled with Christ’s love and God’s eternal power. I am not meant to know it all. If i knew it all, there would be no need for faith or belief. I would be following a set of facts like a mathematical equation which requires no hardship, no humanity, no grace.

So I continue to hope, in the name of Jesus, and am faithful of things unseen. This is what we are called to do as followers of Christ.

I am ok not knowing everything.

In His love,
