Through God, it’s possible

21 09 2010

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua1:9)

Wow! Talk about encouragement! Side note: I never really thought about how the word enCOURAGEment and Courage were the same. I guess when ever I think of encouragement, it is in the context of being sad and someone making me feel better. But really, it is about someone coming alongside you with kind words that spur you onward in courage to reach a goal that seems impossible to achieve. Hmmm interesting…

This morning, we began our annual fall bible study at Amor, called Fall Spiritual Formation. As a staff, we set aside part of our day each Tuesday to discuss a passage of scripture in the context of ministry and how it can affect how we do what we do at Amor. This year, we are reading through the book of Joshua and discussing the leadership of Moses and Joshua and the goals they held as leaders.

The leadership characteristic that has stood out to me the most so far is their faithfulness as followers of God. For example, in Joshua 1, God tells Joshua that he is going to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land and that it will not be easy, however Joshua is the leader God has appointed to succeed Moses. Instead of cowering in fear or telling God umm no thanks, Joshua presses forward without hesitation, taking enCOURAGEment from God and placing all faith in the Lord that He truly has our best interests at heart.

So today, I thank God, for always leading me in the right direction and giving me the strength I need to press on toward His goals for my life.

In His love,

Stacey
