I get by with a little help from my friends

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6)

Do you ever have one of those moments where something happens that just makes you smile , by yourself, to no one? Well I love these moments. To me they are truly God moments because no one else is there. Because something made me smile and the only one to share it with is God. I mean, he put it there in the first place, right?

This is how I felt earlier today. When I prayed to find friends in San Diego, I didn’t even know what I had coming to me. Not only did I quickly make great friends through work and church, but also I have been able to keep up relationships back home that mean the world to me. These friendships with great Christian men and women encourage me daily and renew me so that I have the endurance to persevere in the name of Christ for what is right, to stand up for what I know is true. Together, we glorify God as we are united in the Spirit to live for Him.

This morning, I was talking to my friend Maddie from home. We didn’t talk about anything earth-shattering, but just having her as a friend makes me smile when I think about it. I literally wanted to reach through the computer and hug her. Her encouragement and perfect words from God turned my blah morning into probably the best morning this week. I  know that the Lord put her in my life for a reason, and it was especially evident this morning.

So I just smile. And say thanks God. You always know just what to do.

In His love,

God made the world with a heartful of love,
Then He looked down from Heaven above,
And saw that we all need a helping hand,
Someone to share with, who’ll understand.

He made special people to see us through
The glad times and the sad times, too;
A person on whom we can always depend,
Someone we can call a friend.

God made friends so we’ll carry a part
Of His perfect love in all our hearts
